Modeling & Dynamic Simulation of High-Power Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Systems

Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is a complex nonlinear dynamic system involving multiple physical domains and multiple input coupling in its work process. Modeling and simulation of PEMFC, especially for high-power systems, is of great significance for analyzing system output characteristics, improving system efficiency, optimizing system design, etc. Taking the hundred-kilowatt high-power PEMFC system developed by Suzhou SeeEx Technology co. as the research object, a novel model of PEMFC system is constructed by combining the theoretical and empirical formulas of the stack, hydrogen, air and water subsystems and balance-of-plant (BOP). Key performance parameters are fitted through linear regression least square method to complete modeling and simulation analysis. The output characteristics of key performance indicators, such as output voltage, operating temperature, anode hydrogen and cathode oxygen partial pressure are analyzed and compared with the test results on our test bench. The results indicate that average error within 3% can be obtained between the simulation and experimental results, which makes clear that the model can effectively represent the output characteristics of the high-power PEMFC system, providing an accurate reference for the simulation and optimization of PEMFC system.
