Location and Analysis of an Intermittent Discharge Fault of Switchgear

In recent years, air insulated switchgear with numerous benefits is being widely used in power conversion and distribution projects and industrial users. However, some manufacturers frequently have internal faults and defects due to their pursuit of revenue maximization and lax control during installation and commissioning. Live detection technology has become an important detection method for their safe operation in order to effectively enhance the operation reliability of air insulated switchgear and ensure uninterrupted power supply. This paper comprehensively employs acoustic imaging and UHF partial discharge detection technology to determine the discharge type and approximate discharge positioning based on the intermittent discharge signal found during routine live line inspection of a switchgear, and then uses TDOA positioning method to accurately determine the discharge position. Later, the discharge defect is eliminated through power failure inspection and on-site treatment. Finally, suggestions and measures for handling this type of defect of air insulated switchgear given.
