Research on Implementation of Cellular Automata Based on Memristor

The cellular automata (CA) is a well-known parallel, biologically inspired computing model. It is based on simple local interaction units (i.e., CA units) and their evolution at any time, resulting in emergent computing, which is suitable for simulating physical system behavior, natural phenomenon prediction and multidimensional problem solutions. In addition, CA is also computationally complete, i.e., it has computational power comparable to that of the von Neumann architecture, so it can be attempted to make next-generation computers. In this paper, the memristor device is considered as the basic module of CA cell circuit implementation, which acts as a combined memory and processing element to implement CA-based circuits. This approach allows for a better implementation of metacellular automata. In particular, as example demonstrations, some applications are presented using 1D and 2D CA arrays based on memristors to demonstrate the feasibility of the scheme.
