Reliability and Validity of Angulus- Smartphone Application for Measuring Wrist Flexion and Extension

Wrist range of movement measurements is critical following wrist therapy for individuals with hand impairments. Every time they require medical assistance in measuring the progress of wrist mobility, The research utilizes the Android phone application Angulus to evaluate the wrist’s range of motion at home accurately. The paper evaluates the reliability and validity of a smartphone app (Angulus) for healthy patients by employing wrist flexion and extension movements. The flexion and extension movements of the wrist were obtained from 50 healthy people using physiotherapists for both the left and right hand. Three raters used the Android app and a manual goniometer to measure how much the wrist flexion and extension. For the reliability study, the inter-and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), SEM (standard error estimation), and MDC (minimum detectable change) values were obtained. The inter and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) (3,1) are more than 0.9 (excellent effect). The Pearson correlation coefficient $r\gt 0.9$ indicates a very strong relationship. For all left-and right-hand wrist motions, the Standard Error of Estimation (SEE) ranged from 0.146 to 0.990 degrees. The Bland Altman plots likewise revealed excellent agreement between the measurements. This Android smartphone application is highly reliable and provides more value than a physical goniometer. With the angulus app, you can quickly and easily test the wrist’s range of motion.
