Estimation of Active Standing Wave Ratio in finite size phased array – example for a Ka-band SatCom application

Phased array for Satcom applications are based on high-level specifications. By using an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), it is mandatory to predict and analyze the energy consumption while the radiating elements are directly connected to the amplifier stage of the beamformer integrated circuits. This work details a design in Ka-band for such an application with a wide-angle beamsteering (θ0=70°). An analysis of the active reflection coefficients in a 256-elements finite size array is proposed without the need for a full-wave simulation.
