Exploring the Benefits and Drawbacks of Utilizing a Metallic Bionic Hand in High Precision Manufacturing

This paper presents a discussion on the advantages and drawbacks of using an Aluminum Alloy and CNC-milling in the manufacturing of bionic hands. Aluminum is a lightweight and durable material, making it an excellent choice for prosthetic limbs. 3D printing allows for the creation of complex and customized parts with high precision but may result in limited strength and durability. The CNC-milling process is a complex technique that requires a high level of skill and experience to produce functional and realistic parts. However, using metallic materials in any manufactured product presents challenges in weight and mass management. This study demonstrates that it is technically feasible to use 3D data produced via additive manufacturing to create highly intricate and relatively thin-walled components in the CNC milling process. The increase in mass and manufacturing time remains acceptable and does not restrict the hand's function or application fields. Finite element method (FEM) analysis reveals enhanced structural strength, indicating that such hands may be more usable in outdoor or harsh environments.
