A Reconfigurable Modular Switched Capacitor Structure for High Efficiency Over a Wide Input Voltage Range

Accommodating a wide input voltage range often causes significant variation in efficiency and power dissipation, limiting the maximum power which can be delivered. A reconfigurable modular switched capacitor structure capable of maintaining a very high efficiency over a wide input voltage range is proposed in this paper. The proposed solution is freely scalable to suit arbitrary range of input while enabling reduced voltage stresses on the power switches and maintaining optimal operation. It is also widely adoptable in different designs. Two experimental prototypes had been built and tested to validate the effectiveness of the proposed solution.
