Design of Ku Band High Power Combining Network Based on Waveguide Magic-T

Limited by the output capacity of power components, the maximum output power of Travelling Wave Tube Amplifier (TWTA) is around 200W. However, the high-speed communications like 8K may involve the urgent demand for both the higher transmission power and the larger bandwidth of the system. To meet the requirements, this paper proposes a high efficiency power combining network (PCN) via the modified design of waveguide magic-T. Taking advantage of magic-T, a larger bandwidth, higher output system can be easily realized. Following up is the detailed considerations of the PCN for the consistency in amplitude and phase. The measured saturated-output-power of the Ku dual-way PCN is 385.03W,with the combination-space efficiency of about 95.15%, and equivalent efficiency of about 95.72% for passive loss,and the total combination efficiency of about 91.08%. Simulations and superior experimental results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the system and the method.
