Sustainability on a University Campus Considering Recent Energy Efficiency Initiative in Saudi Arabia

Implementing energy efficiency projects in buildings and facilities of university campuses can result in better optimizing energy supplies and campus loads. Hence, this paper measures the energy sustainability on a university campus, based on an optimization mathematical model, considering recent energy efficiency initiative in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Imam Mohammad ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) campus with an annual demand of 48 MW is considered as a case study in the paper. Simulation results demonstrate that the energy efficiency initiative reduces the installed capacity of PV generation by 30% while the energy sustainability level remains the same in the IMSIU campus.
