Comparison of Sparkfun TRIAD AS7265x spectroscopy sensor device with a Spectrophotometer for qualitative and quantitative analysis

Sparkfun AS7265x is a reflectance spectroscopy sensor with a wide range of wavelengths falling in UV, Visible and IR ranges. Using this sensor, a small device was developed by assembling it with Arduino Uno to make a portable spectroscopic device. A casing was designed to encase a quartz cuvette for holding the sample. The sensor module was also put in the same case. A $16 \times 2$ LCD display was integrated with the system to display the output. The reading was also observed through serial communication in the computer. The sensor could give a reading from $410 \mathrm{~nm}$ to $940 \mathrm{~nm}$ in a matter of seconds. In this range, qualitative and quantitative analysis was made. The device was then compared with a commercial UV vis spectrophotometer (Inkarp Sican 2301) with the same quantitative and qualitative test for the spectrophotometric analysis of KMnO4 solution. The Triad sensor has a lower resolution as compared to that of a spectrophotometer. It could only detect with an interval of $25 \mathrm{~nm}$ to $50 \mathrm{~nm}$. The comparison showed that the device developed can be used for specific tests. In the quantification test of KMnO4, an $\mathrm{R}^{2}$ value of 0.9907 was achieved. This experimental design showed that applications could be extended to Point-of-Care devices for application in healthcare where spectrophotometric analysis is necessary with the combinations of reagents. It can also be combined with biosensors for accurate readout of diseases.
