Decagon Shaped Slot-Based Chipless RFID Tag for RFID Application

This paper represents a small polarization-insensitive Decagon-shaped compact size chip-less Radio Frequency and Identification (RFID) tag working in the frequency range of 3.37-14.12 GHz. The Tag comprises 13 rings separated by a gap between them. The tag represents 13 low-point RCS signatures that represent 13-bit sequences. Data sequence can be changed by adjustment of the resonating element in the defined gap and dimension of the tag. The tag covers the area of

. Data encoding done on Roger RT/Duroid 5880 substrate with a tangent loss (

), dielectric constant (

), and a thickness of 1.6mm is able to provide a good bit density of 2.45 bits/cm

. Design and simulation of the tag is done on CST Microwave Studio software. Designed decagon-shaped tag has good bit density (2.45 bits/cm

) as compared to triangular shape tag (1.21bits/cm

), cobweb shape (2.26bits/cm

), half-wave slot (1.62 bits/cm
²
) and better spectral efficiency (1.42 bits/GHz) than circular (1.12 bits/GHz), rectangular (0.83 bits/GHz), T-shaped (1.11bits/GHz), cobweb-shaped (1.07 bits/GHz), truncated elliptical (1.19 bits/GHz) and hexagon shaped (0.93 bits/GHz) tag.
