Converters and Timing-Control Circuit Design for Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier

The design of a power supply intended for a traveling wave tube (TWT) is discussed in this paper. In this work, a collector converter, a helix converter, and a timing-control and protection circuit useful for the operation of a TWT amplifier are designed and simulated using Proteus 8.9. The collector converter circuit generates DC output voltages which are further fed to a high voltage section that produces voltages between approximately 800-3000V. The collector converter and helix converter circuits employ a +12V of DC power supply and produce pulse signals of 2.5 V amplitude and varying width, which is utilized in a high voltage section connected before the TWT amplifier.
