Millimeter-Wave Silicon Photonics Circuits with Automatic Calibration for Wireless Communications

This paper discusses the limitations of current electronic solutions for integrated mm-wave transceivers that are suitable for 5G mobile communications and introduces silicon photonics (SiP) as an alternate solution to address these limitations. Also the issue regarding distorted initial responses of SiP circuits, such as tunable bandpass filters and true-time-delay units, due to process variation is discussed and automatic calibration techniques algorithms are proposed to alleviate this problem.
