Effects of contraceptives non-use on sexual engagement among secondary school students in North Central, Nigeria

Non-use of contraceptives on sexual engagement among secondary students is one of the major concerns of people the world over because of the health, economic, and social risks of pregnancy and childbearing involved. This paper, therefore, creates a link between the effects of the non-use of contraceptives on sexual engagement among secondary school students of the north-central zone of Nigeria. This study employed the survey method with simple random sampling in recruiting respondents. While the theoretical framework used is the social learning theory and the problem behaviour theory. A cross-tabulation from this simple analysis shows that there is a significant relationship between the extent of contraceptive non-usage and sexual engagement in the respondents. Contraceptives reduce abortion and unwanted pregnancy, the impacts of which are seen in Nigeria, especially among Christians.
