A Dinner Menu & Recipe Recommendation System with Food Expiration-date Notification Functions

This paper presents a design of a dinner menu and recipe recommendation system with food expiration-date notification functions, which aims to reduce household food-loss and improve the quality of life of users. The social contribution of this research is food loss reduction. When a user of our system purchases food products at a supermarket, the user can sense and acquire the products' information by using our system's code reader and complete his/her payment simultaneously with a payment application. The food product information is accumulated in our application's database in a real time in the supermarket. The system reminds the expiration date of the purchased food products and recommends the menu and the recipes of the meal which can be cooked with foods close to the expiration date at dinner time at home. The feature of our system is that the system contributes to the reduction of household food loss and the burden on the environment, as well as the improvement of the user's quality of life and the promotion of better living by providing access to a wide variety of dishes, which can be called as a sustainable cooking.
