Effect of Tubular Precipitator Length on the Precipitation Efficiency

Electrostatic precipitators of tubular geometry is considered one of the basic geometries which is commonly used in electrostatic precipitation. The charge simulation technique is used for calculating the space charge free electric field considering the problem as three dimensional one. Then, a theoretical model is developed to obtain the ionic charge density, electric field, consequent particle charge density distributions, as well as precipitator efficiency as affected by the precipitator length. The influence of the precipitator length on the precipitation efficiency for different values of tube diameters, applied voltages, and flow speeds for dust particles is studied. The ratio of the tube length to tube radius after which the precipitation efficiency is slightly affected is also determined.
