Wire-Tube Electrostatic Precipitator for Cement Factories

A theoretical model is developed for calculating the spatial distributions of the ion charge density, electric field, consequent particle charge density, and efficiency as influenced by the applied voltage, the particle size and concentration, as well as the flow speed of dust particles. The model involves a solution of the governing set of equations; namely; Poisson's equation, equation for current density, current continuity condition and charge acquired by the particle due to ion-bombardment. To check the validity of the obtained results, a vertical wire-tube precipitator is built up. The precipitation efficiency for cement dust is measured for different flow speeds, particle sizes and applied voltages. Both the theoretical and experimental findings are correlated to the physics of corona discharge.
