Rectification and Optimization on Single Component Defect in HVDC Project

In order to improve the stability of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system and avoid abnormal operation or block induced by the single-component defect, the single-component defect optimization scheme of HVDC control and protection system was studied. Based on the typical failure mechanisms and solutions of single control and protection component in HVDC system, a weighted-multivariate comprehensive evaluation model was proposed, verified by practical examples of application. This model is capable of providing suggestions to the optimized design of new projects and grading the urgency and feasibility as well. The reliability design of new HVDC project should follow the ‘N-1’ principle with signal communication mode and complete self-checking logic. This work provides reference and guidance for both the optimization of single component and the design of future system.
