Multi-scenario Applications of Wind Farms with Double Battery Energy Storage System

The new power system with a high proportion of renewable energy as the main source is developing rapidly, and the randomness and volatility it brings greatly affects the stability of the power system. Energy storage can effectively improve the system stability and it is widely used in power generation, transmission, distribution and consumption. At present, the cost of energy storage is relatively high, the profit method is single, so it is necessary to study multi-scenario energy storage to share the cost. This paper proposes a multi-functional scenario coordinated operation strategy of battery energy storage system(BESS) for wind farms(WFs). Energy storage charging and discharging control strategies for three scenarios of primary frequency regulation, power prediction compensation and new energy consumption in WFs are studied. At the same time, in order to reduce the number of switches from charging to discharging and to prolong the lifespan, the BESS is divided into two parts with independent control, which also realizes a collaborative operation under multi-scenario. One year's historical data of a WF are utilized to simulate operations of the BESS-integrated WFs. Life cycle cost of energy storage, multi-scenario benefits, and profits attributed to the BESS are subsequently quantified. Simulation results show that the proposed methodology is effective.
