A Miniature Planar Inverted-F Antenna Working in C-band Applications

This paper presents a planar inverted-F antenna operating in 6.18 GHz which is suitable for C-band (4 GHz-8 GHz) applications. This antenna is designed with the scheme of reduction of size with desired characteristics. The overall size of the antenna is around 16× 17× 1.07 mm

whereas the complete size of the patch is 15.8× 12× 0.035mm

. To design and simulate this antenna, CST Studio Suite is used. A dielectric material (ε=4.1) with the electric conductivity of 0.0003 is selected as a substrate. The material of the patch is copper. Moreover, a shorting pin is used between the patch and the ground. To improve the bandwidth performance, the rectangular shaped slot has been used. This unembellished and miniature antenna operates in 427.8 MHz bandwidth. The maximum reflection coefficient of the offered antenna is obtained about - 43 dBi at 6.18 GHz. Also, the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is measured as 1. The overall gain and the directivity of this antenna is 3.4 dBi and 4.06 dBi respectively.
