Correlation Reconstruction Based High-Accuracy LED and Micro-LED Positioning

The structured illumination-based visible light positioning (VLP) method provides an independent fingerprint optical signal for each spatial region and enables the position identification of the device in the illumination region. In this work, we applied the correlation reconstruction algorithm based on temporal ghost imaging to VLP based on structured illumination. The overlapping of illumination introduced by our algorithm can increase the number of identifiable areas and potentially improve the positioning accuracy. We demonstrated a real-time VLP system based on the algorithm by utilizing a commercial broad-area white LED array, which can acquire position information within 1.3 ms. In addition, we used a GaN micro-LED array to generate a 4 × 4 mm² illumination area at a distance of 17 cm by a projection system, and the positioning accuracy is less than 1 mm. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm has the potential to be applied to LED array-based high-accuracy VLP.
