Covert Detection of Air Targets with a Passive Radar System Using External Signals from Broadcast TV Stations of the DVB-T2 Standard

The problem of air targets detection, including UAVs, is an important task for ensuring security. Using radars is one of the effective ways to detect air targets. But disadvantages of using radars is their high electronic visibility. To ensure the secrecy of radars is fundamentally possible to use the signals of other radio systems, for example, television broadcasting, as probing radar signals. The purpose of the article is to evaluate the possibilities of covert detection of air targets with a multi-position receiving system using external signals from broadcast TV stations of the DVB-T2 standard. The performed calculations showed that the construction of such a system, for example, in the Moscow region, is fundamentally possible under a number of conditions. The article also proposes a scheme for constructing a passive radar system based on reflections of signals from broadcasting transmitters. It is noted that the use of broadcasting signals to implement the method of continuous passive radar requires solving a number of technical problems of joint operation of television broadcasting and radar systems. Among the most important and complex problems, can be identified the problems of electromagnetic compatibility and forming the correlator reference signal.
