An Anthropomorphic Upper Extremity Design Based on the Responses Generated by Electromyography Using 3D Technology

Every year, more than 4000 people are injured in traffic accidents and left without one or more body parts. Thousands of people lost their limbs because of some medical conditions including diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, blood clots, or peripheral vascular disease. The goal of this research is to assist victims who lost their hands due to an tragedy, a chronic illness, or a birth deformity. Here, we proposed a novel method to provide the 3D printed arm and using EMG signals to allow patients to grasp things without any stress. The artificial arm will be lightweight, have faster actuation, and be able to execute all necessary functions. It is 3D printed using filament made of polylactic acid (PLA). The motion of the hands is sensed by the EMG sensor. The impulse produced by the EMG sensors, which is transmitted and subsequently received, so that the 3D printed hand and fingers move with the servo motors. The development of more robust, long-lasting prosthetic devices will be made possible by the expansion of the 3D printing sector and the use of advanced printers and materials. In addition to PLA, carbon fiber can be used for 3D printing and provides substantially more strength.
