Analysis Of Fingerprint As A Identification Tool In Forensic-Survey Based Study

Fingerprints are unique impressions left behind when a finger touches a surface, and they have been used in forensic studies since the late 19th century to identify individuals. Enhancing the visibility of latent fingerprints, which are not immediately visible, is a crucial aspect of forensic studies. Fingerprint patterns are distinct to each individual, and the likelihood of two people having the same fingerprint is minimal. This study aimed to raise awareness about fingerprint analysis as a forensic Odontology tool among dental undergraduate students. A questionnaire was distributed to 100 participants, who were given an explanation about the study’s purpose. The questions were analyzed, and the corresponding answers were marked by the participants. The data collected were statistically analyzed using SPSS software, and a chi-square test was conducted. The study’s results showed that 79% of the participants were aware of fingerprint analysis in forensic investigations. However, more significant progress could be made in this field to provide better knowledge to dental students and the general public. The p- value was found to be 0.308 (¿0.05). The study revealed that while many participants were aware of fingerprint analysis in forensic investigations, they lacked knowledge about the various materials used and the advantages and disadvantages of finger- print analysis. Future studies could involve larger populations, including the general public and not just dental undergraduate students.
