Signal Delay Study in the Adaptive Control Scheme with the Model in the Loop

The paper investigates the effect of signal delays in adaptive control systems with a model in an additional loop. It is noted that such schemes are an effective tool in cases of complex organizational and technical systems. Since such systems are often represented as multi-level, the adaptation circuit in them is associated with the highest level. The reference model plays here the role of a program or management plan. Having a program, it is possible to reduce control only to the elimination of deviations from it in one direction or another. To eliminate the unstable behavior of control systems due to delays, it is proposed to apply special measures. It is necessary to select some parts of the model (patterns), search for them in the real noisy output signal of the control object and introduce a phase detector, and in complex cases even use artificial intelligence systems. The study revealed the instability of the system’s behavior, which is especially frequent when the signal lags behind the control object in relation to the model one.
