Applications of IoT in Retail: A Systematic Review

Research on Internet of Things (IoT) in retail was initiated in 1998 and since then a large number of applications of IoT in retail industry has been explored. This study focuses on analyzing the previous research work accepted in the area of application of IoT in retail sector. The findings of this study provide information about the rise in the number of research work as well as its citations with the help of bibliometric analysis. The online Scopus enquire resulted in 583 documents. Maximum publications were in conferences proceedings and journals. Most of the research related to IoT in retail was led in India and China and was multi-authored having an average collaboration index of 3.22 authors/article. The current work shows the development of the research work related to the application of IoT in retail and recognizes extents of existing research and suggests the directions for upcoming work.
