Enrichment in power quality using Power Factor Correction Cuk converter fed BLDC Motor Drive

This paper deals with cost effective solution applied for enhancing the power quality in low voltage applications using power factor correction (PFC) constructed Cuk converter fed brushless DC motor (BLDC) drive whose speed is monitored by differing the DC bus voltage of voltage source inverter (VSI) for reduced switching losses. A diode bridge rectifier (DBR) coupled to a Cuk converter operating in continuous (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is deployed to manage the DC link voltage with unity power factor at the AC mains. To determine the optimal mode of operation, the effectiveness of the proposed PFC Cuk converter is assessed under various continuous and discontinuous conduction mode working conditions. Using the MATLAB/Simulink tool, the suggested system’s performance is simulated.
