Mini Hydropower Potential for Low Energy Areas in Quezon Province

This study is about identifying areas that have low energy access with the use of capacity factor and proximity distribution. Near rivers’ capacity flow, and its specific discharge was calculated. The data were used to determine the power generation of the river that it can supply to distinct remote areas. The use of mini hydropower is introduced, due to the reason that it is suitable for regional communities and industry. The flow duration curve illustrates the flow of the river that will determine the supply of electricity for a certain period. The capacity factor through flow duration curve in Quezon Province was determined for the evaluation of an excellent mini hydropower site. Result showed that its efficiency is ranging from 80 - 90% exceedance which is considered as a high-capacity factor and can produce a power of 139.4 KW considering only a 5m height. The most suitable location is short distances of barangays to its nearby rivers, where losses are lessened and can give energy at the lower outlay. Upon evaluating, five (5) ideal barangays were chosen due to their advantageous characteristics, considering their proximity to the rivers, and having the largest number of people. The barangays identified are: Camflora, Pagsanghan, Pansoy, Rosario, and Caridad Ibaba with the most practical and ideal data in choosing a potential location for the mini hydropower. It is recommended for future researchers to focus on mini hydropower as a good source of energy and should be used in a more developed study to provide electricity in particular areas in Quezon Province.
