A Backscatter Communication Enabled Passive IoT Node for Sensor Interface

Backscatter communication is an enabling technology for 6G communication and passive Internet of Things (IoT). How to harvest power and reduce power consumption is a research challenge for the node design. In this paper, a sensor node based on backscatter communication is developed. The node obtains energy from the RF source through a wireless energy harvesting module to activate the microcontroller unit (MCU). The sensing data is sent back to the receiver in a form of load modulation via controlling an RF switch. A resistive sensor is connected to the interface and the function of continuous monitoring is experimentally demonstrated. The proposed passive IoT node can provide an interface for ubiquitous connectivity.
