A Flexible Material-Based Circularly Polarized Broadband Metasurface Antenna for WBAN

This research suggests a novel circularly polarized and broadband metasurface antenna for wireless body area network (WBAN) to address the issue of poor communication quality of wearable devices owing to human mobility. The proposed metasurface antenna adopts the flexible material polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as the substrate material and achieves the -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 36.42% and the 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 10.3%. The results demonstrate that the specific absorption rate (SAR) values under 1 g and 10 g of human tissue are 0.858 W/kg and 0.321 W/kg, respectively, using a human tissue model to compare. The suggested antenna is suitable for 5 GHz WBAN due to its wideband, circular polarization, high gain, and harmless to the human body.
