A Super Wideband Monopole Antenna for High-Fidelity Time-Domain Pulse Radiation

A modified compact printed monopole antenna is introduced for super wideband and short-pulse applications. The proposed configuration consists of a novel ground plate in an anthropomorphous profile and an elliptical monopole patch. The patch is connected with a tapered microstrip line by semi-elliptical feeding branches. Anthropomorphous profile of the ground plate and the feeding structure effectively enlarges the bandwidth of the monopole antenna. Its simple topology offers compactness and portability. A ratio bandwidth above 33:1 is achieved from 2.99 GHz to 100 GHz, with the reflection coefficient lower than -10 dB. Radiating performance of time-domain pulses is evaluated by the fidelity between the radiated pulses and stimulated differential Gaussian pulses within the spectrum of 3.1-60 GHz. The fidelity over 0.96 shows the capability of the proposed antenna in short-pulse radiation with high fidelity, and the antenna is applicable in both centimeter wave and millimeter wave bands.
