Implementation of FRT Capability of a Multilevel Grid Connected PV Inverter to Enhance Voltage and Transient Stability

The inclusion of Renewable Energy sources into power networks (such as inverters) has increased vastly in recent years and is mostly seen in combination with the electrical network grids. The operation of hybrid power networks under intense faults is a crucial topic as it can lead to new technical difficulties, such as maintaining transient stability through faults. This is where the modification calls to include the RE systems for the use of Fault Ride Through capacity during faults. The proposed control strategy for PV inverters aims to address this problem by connecting a synchronous generator to the grid and operating it in Momentary Cessation Mode. The few published researches on the operation of PV power plants with a brief fault have not provided any major insights into how these systems might affect the larger issue of power system stability. To overcome this challenge, this study emphasizes that the usage of Multi Level Inverter for the conversion phase can aid in increasing the transient stability. Additionally, the study also indicates that among the varied approaches for enhancing FRT capabilities, placing energy capacitor systems close to the grid, can help the system’s overall transient stability.
