Experimental Study of kW-class Wireless Charging System for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle with Magnetic Resonance

A magnetic field resonant wireless power charging system for AUVs was constructed using multiple coils. The charging system, which consists of a charging control circuit, a lithium-ion battery, and an AUV device, was built in the second stage of the rectifier circuit. Using a prototype power receiving coil and charging control circuit, which was installed in the AUV, charge, and discharge experiments were conducted in an actual sea environment. When the receiving coil was in the center of the transmission coil, the transmission efficiency was 71%, and 3 kW of charging was confirmed. Charging operation was also possible during thruster operation, which makes over 10A currents consumption drifts in AUV. It indicates the high robustness of the charging system.
