Introduction to Indonesian Cable-based Subsea Tsunameter

Since Indonesia is surrounded by a Ring of Fire that can produce a Tsunami hazard, as occurred at North Sumatera in December 2004, the government of Indonesia has the policy to develop and operate new technology on Tsunami Early Warning System as decreed recently in Presidential Decree No. 93/2019. Cable-based subsea tsunameter (InaCBT) is one of the latest technology developed by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN). It has been in operation since March 2022 in the north of Labuan Bajo with 54 km of optical and copper subsea cable. This first InaCBT has two ocean bottom units (OBU) placed at 2111 meter depth and 4122 meter depth with a precise water column pressure sensor, 3-axis accelerometer, and temperature sensor in each OBU.
