Analysis and Modeling of an Oval Shaped Silica PCF for Supercontinuum Generation

of the oval air holes while keeping the minor axis radius (y-axis), r
u
fixed at a value of 0.5 μm in order to achieve an optimized dispersion curve and confinement loss. The proposed PCF has performed favorably when compared with a traditional design PCF showing lesser confinement loss and a flat dispersion curve. We have further investigated the optical properties of our proposed PCF when geometrical parameters are varied. Low confinement loss has been observed when increasing the major axis radius (x-axis) for a fixed lattice pitch, A. On the other hand, increasing the lattice pitch while keeping other factors constant such as the air filling fraction, d

/Λ also reduces confinement loss but shifts dispersion curve upwards. We have further generated supercontinuum using the proposed PCF design which is 20mm long in length and having parameters such as Λ=3μm, r
M
= 1.0μm and r
u
= 0.5μm. The PCF is pumped at a wavelength of 1.55μm, a peak power of 1 MW and a pulse width of 50fs is applied and hence generating a SC spanning from 1 μm to 2.7 μm.
