A Comparative Review on Theory and Designing of 28/38GHz 5G MIMO and Array Antenna

This paper presents a detailed analysis of millimeter-wave (mmW) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) access and array antenna with various enhancements to highlight the recent developments and design limitations in 5th Generation (5G) technology. The demand for high speed, high gain, large directivity, high SNR, and increased data rates has made mmW MIMO and array configuration of antennae popular in recent years. There are various difficulties in designing MIMO and array EM wave antennae that provide the required 5G infrastructure specifications defined by International-Telecommunication-Union (ITU). Exhaustive studies in mmW MIMO and array antennas are requiredto serve the needs of the next generation evolution of 5G technology as specified by third generation partnership project (3GPP) in its release 16, 17, and 18 and to proceed with the evolution of technology, SEVO (short-term), MEVO (medium-term), and LEVO (long-term) targets are analyzed with respect to the designing of 5G antenna. This paper covers the comparative analysis with advantages and limitations of different 5G MIMO and array antennae designed in recent years to assist future researchers in designing a novel antenna.
