Is the residential sector ready for prescriptive maintenance? A short analysis

Prescriptive maintenance (PsM) is a critical part of a home appliance's life cycle and one of the most important ways to extend its lifetime while increasing its efficiency. This paper aims to highlight residential sector's readiness for PsM and also try to suggest potential prescriptions for implementation. The findings of this paper reveal that in general, including all sectors, there is not a mature and ready-to-apply concept. For the residential sector, PsM is essentially nonexistent. There are a variety of good maintenance habits that should be applied regularly that can optimize the useful life of home appliances while avoiding sudden failures. This article also aims to provide information on how homeowners could acquire a maintenance mindset to take at least some responsibility for prolonging the life of their home appliances.
