A Power-Combined Doubler with Compact and Symmetrical Structure for Terahertz Band

This work presents a power-combined frequency doubler worked in 160-180GHz. Different from traditional power-combined structures, it combines two single doubles face to face along the center line of the narrow edge of the waveguide symmetrically. This structure can realize power combining of output power in-phase, without the need for waveguide power combiners and additional phase balancing structures. Therefore, the volume of the overall power-combined doubler can be greatly reduced and the loss caused by phase balancing structures can be avoided. The simulation results show that the power-combined doubler exhibits a higher than 10% conversion efficiency from 162 to 178GHz, and has a peak conversion efficiency of 29.5% at 168GHz for a 150mW input power. On this basis, the novel power-combined frequency doubler is compared with the single doubler to show the combining efficiency.
