Effective Coverage Optimization Techniques in WSN using the Harris Hawk Algorithm

The Wireless Sensor Networks also called as WSN”s, consist of sensor nodes spread over a wide geographical area equipped with battery for power contributes. These nodes are deployed to capture the information in the area of significance. Low sensing power may drain the battery speedily which causes the reducing lifespan of the sensor network. Moreover, the improper placement of sensors leads to low sensing power. Hence, for improving coverage rate of the network, a Harris Hawk Algorithm (HHO) is proposed which is a solution based on meta-heuristics algorithm. The HHO is executed at the base station to determine the location of sensor nodes. HHO is then executed at the sensor nodes to determine the coverage rate of the network based on the probability model of the sensing. The proposed approach is evaluated for coverage efficiency, sensor costs, and stability. The results validate the applicability of HHO for solving the WSN coverage problem. Simulation results substantiate that HHO outperforms other techniques in achieving an improved coverage rate.
