Modeling and Attenuation of Conducted EMI in DC-DC Converters Using Hybrid Filter

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) in automobiles is regulated by extensive standards due to its criticality of operation. One of the major equipment contributing to the EMI emissions is the usage of power converters for various applications across the automobile. Predominantly, the power converters used in automobiles to drive all the electronic components are DC-DC converters in order to meet the voltage requirements of these individual equipment driven by a fixed voltage output battery. The ask of the modern age is to have high-power density converters in order to have compactness in the overall equipment. This high-power density is possible with the usage of wide band gap devices as the switches in the converter circuits which enable high switching frequency operation. The flip side is, however, the EMI emissions due to these high-frequency switching devices. EMI modeling and reduction research is the key to developing solutions to achieve EMI compliance. The work focuses on the typically used buck-boost converter with practical application. Addressing all types of EMI emissions involve different strategy and modeling specific to the type of EMI emission. The entire design and development flow of the converter complying with the standards of EMI is laid out in the work that follows.
