A Controller Hardware in Loop Framework for Microgrid Control Applications

The control of microgrids is becoming complex day by day. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a cheap and readily implementable controller hardware in loop framework to validate the control techniques. This paper proposes a simple and cost effective controller hardware in loop framework for validation of microgrid controllers in real time. The proposed controller hardware in loop framework uses a Raspberry Pi controller which implements the control and a computer which simulates the hardware parts of the microgrid. This overrides the need of commonly used real time digital simulators which are expensive and complex to use. The proposed controller hardware in loop framework is developed and tested.
