Simulation of the Working Process of a Dual-Fuel Engine to Determine the Impact of the Parameters of the Pilot Portion of Diesel Fuel on its Performance

Because dual-fuel engine must operate efficiently in the diesel mode, there are not many ways to perfect the combustion of gas fuel. One of the main tools for improving the performance of a dual-fuel engine is to adjust the parameters of the diesel fuel ignition doze. A simulation research was carried out using the AVL FIRE software package to estimate the impact of the basic parameters of the ignition doze of diesel fuel on fuel economy, peak cylinder pressure, harmful emissions and power of automotive dual-fuel engine. The influence of the injection advance angle, injection duration and the share of the ignition doze of diesel fuel were studied. The injection rate characteristic of the ignition doze of diesel fuel calculated using a software package for modeling parameters of the fuel system is presented. Calculations by the AVL FIRE model show that a decrease in the diesel fuel injection advance angle can reduce significantly emissions of nitrogen oxides NOx and unburned methane CH4. An increase in the diesel fuel injection duration makes it possible to reduce significantly NOx and CH4 emissions with a slight deterioration in effective indicators, and a decrease in the ignition doze of diesel fuel leads to a drop of NOx emissions.
