Optimal Placement of Renewable Energy Sources in Low Power Distribution System For Techno-Economic Performance Benefits

Renewable energy is increasingly being sought as a supplement and alternative to existing large-scale power facilities. The distribution networks are growing increasingly sophisticated as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and wind turbine generator (WTG) systems are deployed on a significant scale in conjunction with battery energy storage systems (BESS). With optimal allocation of PV and WTG sources and an effective energy management plan, the benefits of decreasing carbon footprint, lowering consumer tariffs, and increasing power quality may be realized. This paper uses a multi-purpose Cat and Mouse-Based Optimization (CMBO) algorithm inspired by the natural behavior of cats and mice to obtain the optimal capacity and location of PV, WTG integrated with BESS in a radial distribution system (RDS). The proposed algorithm includes several benefits, including economic benefit, decreased CO2 emissions, and reduced energy loss each day. We employ a typical IEEE 69 bus test system to validate the suggested approach with various test scenarios. The results show reduced node voltage profiles, safety margins, and energy losses, as well as CO2 emissions reductions and enhanced distribution system economic performance.
