Reliability Modeling of 12V Batteries Used in Multiple Products

SUMMARY & CONCLUSIONSThis paper introduces a series of statistical analyses performed on batteries installed on multiple products. An initial investigation was triggered by early reports of higher than normal failure rates of 12V battery assembled in multiple vehicles.To better understand the reliability performance of the batteries in field, a series of actions was initiated:•Warranty data mining•Narrow down the scope to specific model families•Reliability modeling through Weibull analysesThe analyses described in the paper established a deeper understanding of the failure mechanisms, the relative failure rates of various product lines, and provided information to the product improvement teams to focus on field actions that would rectify the situation.
