A New Adaptive POL Converter Controller Design to Improve Bus Voltage Stability for DC Microgrid Application

This paper describes an adaptive resonance extraction-based DC-DC converter controller to stabilize the DC Microgrid (DCMG). The DCMG becomes unstable due to the excessive application of constant power loads (CPLs). Source-side DCMG stabilization approach fails, under such conditions, and therefore, regulation of load side control method is an alternative approach to improve the stability of DCMG. In this article, a new feed-forward control is proposed to improve the stability of the DCMG system. In which load-side converter input impedance is altered to stabilize the system. The study investigates the possibility of instability over the operational frequency range. It reduces DCMG oscillations without increasing system complexity and dissipation. The outcomes of MATLAB simulation have been compared with suggested control methods to ensure the effectiveness over existing control. And it was revealed that the settling times of DC bus voltage and current were reduced from 0.5s and 0.25s to 0.25s and 0.16s, respectively, and that the bus voltage ripple was decreased from 5.28 to 0.7%.
