Simulation of the Condensed Phase Particles Electrization in Combustion Products of the Model Hybrid Rocket Engine

The paper presents results of calculating the electric charge received by the condensed phase (C-phase) particles, i.e. of metals and their oxides, in the ionized high-enthalpy flow formed by the direct scheme model hybrid rocket engine (MHRE) on the fuel components, such as gaseous oxygen and Hydroxyl Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB) type fuel. Electric charge of the C-phase particles with initial diameters of 7…10 μm was calculated using the thermionic charging equations with the assumption of temperature and velocity disequilibrium in the carrier gas and particles. Using the theory of electrostatic probe, the obtained calculation results of the electric charge and of the particles potential acquired in the flow were compared with experimental data from the other authors. Mathematical model could be used in developing the diagnostic systems algorithms determining coefficient of the C-phase particles combustion completeness and estimating the MHRE intra- ballistic parameters.
