Monte Carlo simulation of light propagation in breast tissue

Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of light propagation with 3D visualization platform can be used for image reconstruction. However, the complex structure and tissue inhomogeneity greatly increase the computing time of MC simulations. This study proposed a kind of improved cords of a voxelized type of MC software, to realize light propagation simulation in heterogeneous tissues with arbitrary geometric boundary. Validation studies on a realistic 3D female breast model show that the memories can be saved, time of parsing the file can be reduced and efficiency can be improved, indicating its great potential for biomedical optical applications.
