Frequency control of two region two-unit systems with HVDC link and SMES

The variation in frequency with load is a major source of worry. At this study, a load frequency problem is addressed in the first moment by using two localized power grids, each of which include a hydro and a wind power plant. Then, to boost system performance, SMES and HVDC links are introduced. In all circumstances, a PID regulator is employed, and the regulator, HVDC and SMES parameters are modified employing the DE technique. A new load pattern is utilized instead of a step load when designing the complete model in Matlab software, and the results show that by employing SMES and HVDC connections, the network is better able to take into account tie line power and frequency fluctuation.
