Outage Probability and Average Sum Rate of an IoT enabled D2D Communication Network in LTE Environment

Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept which forms a giant network of all connected things and people. To interconnect the IoT devices (IoTDs), Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is considered a key technology that allows the proximity services (ProSe) i.e., direct communication between two Device User Equipment (DUE) without unnecessary routing through network infrastructure, and also utilizes the existing cellular bands, resulting in low latency and spectrum efficiency. In this paper our objective is to provide connectivity between the IoTDs lying inside the poor coverage region and their associated IoT Gateway (IoT-GW) using D2D communication underlying Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. We have simulated the model and investigated the impact on overall Outage Probability of the communication link for different parameters. We have also investigated the Average Sum Rate (ASR) of the system network for different number of IoTDs.
