Novel Control Scheme for Wind based Standalone Hybrid Power Generation System under Faults on Three Phase Distribution Feeders

Wind energy based standalone electrical power generation systems are widely used for various applications in many places. Batteries must be used to maintain power balance in such standalone systems. Moreover, integration of Fuel Cell (FC) and Electrolyzer can give more strength to standalone systems to improve reliability as well as make it less cost for long run. Usually, a three-phase inverter is required to feed AC supply to both single as well as three phase loads connected at point of common coupling (PCC). However, faults are common phenomena in such a 3-phase standalone distribution system Therefore, proper controllers on both DC and AC side are required to maintain power quality in the system and these controllers further help the system to sustain or make it healthy for a long time. During faults, the speed of the wind turbine cannot be restored even after clearance of the fault. Hence, a modified Maximum power point tracker (MPPT) controller is implemented for wind turbine to work under faults on the distribution system A novel controller of inverter is also incorporated with the system to limit the current flowing through invert legs during faults. The real time digital simulator (RTDS) based results along with results carried on MATLAB-Simulink are discussed and presented in this paper to validate the proposed method.
